Parent/School Partnership: School Calendar
Each year the leadership team of Logos plans the school calendar with the best intentions of balancing the need for student instructional days with the need to address official Cambodian holidays. Good attendance at school is vital for student success.
The Student/Parent Handbook states: “All student absences must be reported to the office. Extended absences of 5 or more days require administrator approval.” Logos teachers are eager to partner with parents to help their students succeed, but parents are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their students receive the instruction necessary for success. Please consider this partnership when planning family events that take students away from school.

Environmental Club
Next week, the Logos environmental club will be going to elementary and secondary classes to kick off the installation of new plastic and can recycling bins around the school. Tim Hayes, a former student at Logos, designed the recycling bins and coordinated their construction and installation with Mr. Workman and the Logos maintenance staff. Please help Logos become better stewards of our resources and waste by recycling your plastic bottles, cups, and aluminum cans!
Sports News:
Hi Logos Lightning Fans!
We finished middle school soccer last Saturday.
Both teams never gave up as the boys played hard but lost, and the girls lost in the finals to ISPP.
Middle school volleyball will begin for girls on Monday, Feb 18th and for boys on Tuesday, Feb 19th.
Friday Feb 8th, at 5PM we invite the B team HS basketball players not participating in the
ASAC or Bangkok tournaments to join us for 2 hours of basketball fun and pizza and drinks to celebrate your basketball season. We apologize for not having a B team tournament for you this season but want you to have a season ending event. Please let your coach know if you are not able to attend.
High school basketball will finish their regular season with a tournament at NISC (Northbridge International School) on Saturday, Feb 9th. Boys begin at 8 AM and girls begin at 10AM. Come out and cheer as the Lightning strike fear into their opponents and light up the court!
High school soccer practice will begin for girls on Monday Feb 11th at 6AM. For Boys Thursday, Feb 14th at 6AM.
Go Lightning!

A great big THANK YOU goes out to all of the volunteer moms who were able to come and help clean the Library! They spent a couple of hours washing away a lot of dust and the bookshelves look great.
Scholastic orders are due today! If you forgot to send your order in, they will still be accepted first thing on Thursday morning.

Improving School Community & Student Health
Chronic absenteeism broadly refers to missing too much school for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences as well as suspensions. The US Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has used a definition of missing 15 or more days over the course of a school year.1 Most researchers have defined chronic absenteeism as missing 10% (or around 18 days) of the entire school year. Some organizations suggest using 10%, because it promotes earlier identification of poor attendance throughout the school year. For example, identifying students who have missed just 2 days in the first month of school predicts chronic absence throughout the year.
Chronic absenteeism can occur as early as preschool and kindergarten and has been shown to be related to future chronic absenteeism, grade retention, and poor academic achievement, particularly for social skills and reading.3,8,20,21 In the USA, among elementary school students, absenteeism is highest in kindergarten and first grade, then decreases until middle school. At least 10% of kindergarten and first-grade students miss a month or more of the school year.21 Absenteeism tends to increase again in middle school and high school, with an estimated 19% of all high school students being chronically absent.
Here is a great interactive website for parents and students that address the needs of improving school community and Student Health by the CDC: Improving School Community & Student Health.
